Repairs

Misted unit? Broken handle? Repairs often cost £40–£200 — a fraction of replacement. Check before you commit to new windows.

Why bother upgrading?

The Energy Saving Trust estimates that installing A-rated double glazing in a typical semi-detached home saves around £140£235 a year on energy bills — plus a warmer, quieter home. And since 2022, Building Regulations (Approved Document L) require replacement windows to hit a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better, so any compliant new window is a genuine thermal upgrade on 1990s glazing.

Not sure whether to repair or replace? A misted double-glazed unit usually means the sealed unit has failed — not the frame. Replacing just the glass typically costs £75–£200. Our repair guide explains when each makes sense.
